Heat Exchanger

Heat exchanger adalah sebuah alat yang berfungsi untuk mentransfer energi panas (entalpi) antara dua atau lebih fluida, antara permukaan padat dengan fluida, atau antara partikel padat dengan fluida, pada temperatur yang berbeda serta terjadi kontak termal. Lebih lanjut, heat exchanger dapat pula berfungsi sebagai alat pembuang panas, alat sterilisasi, pesteurisasi, pemisahan campuran, distilisasi (pemurnian, ekstraksi), pembentukan konsentrat, kristalisasi, atau juga untuk mengontrol sebuah proses fluida.

Satu bagian terpenting dari heat exchanger adalah permukaan kontak panas. Pada permukaan inilah terjadi perpindahan panas dari satu zat ke zat yang lain. Semakin luas bidang kontak total yang dimiliki oleh heat exchanger tersebut, maka akan semakin tinggi nilai efisiensi perpindahan panasnya.
