Causes of Mangrove Destruction

Many disasters and losses caused by damage / loss of mangrove forests, such as coastal erosion, salt water intrusion, flooding, destruction of settlements sea storm, the loss of natural fishery resources, the loss of ability in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The condition, usually caused by:

1. Intake / excessive felling of mangrove forests
2. Diversion function of  mangrove forests into ponds, residential or agricultural use with no regard to     the principle of conservation and sustainable
3. Leaving the barren and arid coastal region without reforestation efforts (eg with mangroves)

Indonesia has a very broad coastal areas overgrown various types of coastal plants such as mangroves (Indonesia is a tropical country with largest mangrove forest in the world, around 3.2 million ha). But it is unfortunate, since the mid-1980s, most of the coastal areas in Indonesia have suffered considerable damage mainly caused by forest to coast into aquaculture and other uses of land.
To restore functionality, benefits and environmental services of mangroves and other coastal forests, it takes the efforts of rehabilitation and coastal management right and true, one is to apply the concept of farm friendly environment or often referred to as aquaculture that preserve mangroves as the green line or planting mangrove ponds (Silvofishery).
